Celebrating the In-Between & Making the Middle Count

Written By: KD Ramirez, ICF Life Coach

Raise your hand if you could use a mid-year “pick-me-up” (both of my hands are up). Let’s be honest—the middle of the year is kind of weird. Not quite fresh and new like January. Not quite reflective and resolution-heavy like December. It’s the space where people either kick it into gear or fall into autopilot. And honestly? That makes it one of the most powerful, underrated parts of the year.

June isn’t just halfway through the calendar. It’s a mirror. It reflects back everything you’ve carried since the beginning of the year: your wins, your unfinished plans, the mindset you said you’d upgrade, and the habits you said you’d ditch. It also holds massive potential for what could be created in the next six months (if you don’t sleep on it).

As a coach, I work with people who are constantly in transition: career pivots, relationship shifts, identity upgrades. And one thing I see over and over? People treating the "in-between" as a waiting room, when really it’s the training ground. This middle space is not where life pauses. It’s where life sharpens.

If you find yourself resisting the “In-Between,” welcome to the club! We’re a culture obsessed with arrival: getting the dream job, reaching the goal weight, finding "the one," getting the next big win. The in-between moments feel too quiet, too unclear. It’s where doubt creeps in and momentum feels low. But that discomfort? That’s where the transformation actually starts.

Think about it: when you’re climbing a mountain, the top is amazing—but the climb is where your grit, creativity, and clarity are born. The halfway point is where people are most likely to give up or level up. Your choice.

Down to reframe the middle part? Here’s the truth you didn’t know you needed: the in-between is the point. Not the before-and-after pictures, not the highlight reel moment, but the messy, middle part where you’re figuring it out in real time. This is where you experiment. This is where you course-correct. This is where flow meets intention. This is where you let go of the version of you who started the year and choose who you want to be for the rest of it.

So, what if June wasn’t your slump month but your launch pad? What if instead of overanalyzing how far you haven’t come, you got honest and intentional about how far you still can?

Coach Tips on How to Stay Present & Diligent in the In-Between

1. If you’re craving more consistency, clarity, or a comeback for the rest of your year, here are a few things to keep you grounded and moving:

Do a Mid-Year Check-In: Not a life audit. Not a shame spiral. Just a check-in. Ask yourself:

- What’s actually working?

- What am I proud of so far?

- What habits, mindsets, or relationships feel heavy?

- Who do I want to be by December?

2. Pick One Core Focus: Not five. Not twelve. One. What’s the one thing that, if improved, would make everything else flow more smoothly? Pour into that. Let everything else orbit around it.

3. Build Rituals, Not Routines: Routines can feel rigid. Rituals, on the other hand, are rooted in intention. Make small moments sacred: your morning coffee, a Sunday reset, a daily walk. Don’t just do—be present while doing.

4. Stay Motivated When Results Aren’t Instant: Spoiler alert: Most things that are worth it don’t come with overnight results. But that doesn’t mean you’re off-track. If you're doing the work and showing up (even inconsistently), you’re building momentum—even if it’s invisible right now.

Here’s a mindset shift I love: instead of asking, "Is this working?" ask, "Am I working it?" Growth doesn’t always look like a breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like boring consistency. And that’s okay. When you shift from outcome-obsession to process-devotion, you build trust with yourself. And that trust is everything.

Track the micro-wins. Celebrate when you follow through on something small. That momentum will stack–quietly, but powerfully.

5. Make Accountability Cool Again: Accountability doesn’t have to feel corporate or forced. It can be deeply supportive and even fun when you do it the right way. Maybe it’s hiring a coach (hey!), maybe it’s creating a “check-in” thread with your friends, or maybe it’s using voice notes to talk things out with yourself.

The point isn’t to be perfect. It’s to stay connected to your own progress. You deserve to feel witnessed in your growth. You deserve a hype team. And you deserve to make space in your life for people who ask, “How’s that goal going?” because they believe in you, not because they’re micromanaging you.

Affirmations to Anchor You: Let these be your grounding reminders when your inner critic gets loud or your momentum feels shaky:

- I don’t need to have it all figured out to move forward.

- This middle moment is building the future version of me.

- I am allowed to evolve, shift, and realign.

- The process is not a pause. It is the progress.

- I show up for myself, even when it’s messy.

If you’re in a season that feels unclear, unsexy, or like nothing’s really happening—good. That means you’re in it. This is where the next chapter starts. Let this June be your wake-up call, your reset button, your permission slip to pivot. Not because you’re behind, but because you’re ready. Because the middle isn’t a dead zone. It’s the heartbeat.

This is where the quiet work happens. Where the real ones keep showing up, even when there’s no applause yet. It’s where the mindset shifts, the boundaries solidify, the habits get rebuilt. That’s what separates the people who talk about change from the ones who actually live it.

Don’t wait for a perfect plan. Don’t wait until you “feel” ready. Don’t wait for January to re-decide who you want to be. You can start again right now, in the middle. In the mess. In the moment you least expected would matter.

The people you admire? They didn’t wait for clarity to show up. They created it by moving. They trusted themselves enough to take action even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed. That’s bold. That’s powerful. And that’s available to you, too.

You don’t need permission to re-route. You don’t need anyone’s approval to go after what you want. You just need to decide that you’re worth the effort and then move like it.

So if you’re reading this and waiting for a sign, this is it. Start again. Recommit. Make this middle moment count. Because success isn’t about being perfect from the start. It’s about having the courage to keep going when it’s quiet, uncertain, and still unfolding. The middle is where the magic happens.
